Running my 10K in the Colfax Marathon Relay

Crossing the finish line of my first sprint tri, Your Cause at a Mile High, on July 18, 2009. I finished in 1:23:40.

Coming up to the finish line of the Oktoberfest Sprint Tri on 9/20/09 with a time of 1:43:59.
Hi, I’m Kathy. I am 27 and live in Denver, CO, with my husband, Travis. We got married on May 19, 2007 in Mounds View, Minnesota and moved out to Boulder, CO in September of 2007. In July 2008, we bought our first house in Wheat Ridge, CO, a western suburb of Denver. While we miss our family and friends back in MN, we LOVE living in Colorado.
This blog started out as a chronicle of my adventures training for my first triathlon. While I had been exercising regularly for the past 7 years or so and had ran a few road races in the past (a 10-mile race back in 2006 and a half marathon and 10K in 2008), I had never biked competitively and had never swam for any length of time or distance…period. Put those all together with what they call transitions and I really felt like I was starting from Square One!
The first sprint triathlon I did was the Tri For Your Cause on July 18th, 2009, in Aurora, CO. I raised $420 for Life Choices Pregnancy Center, a Christian non-profit dedicated to reaching teen girls (and their significant others) with the truth about abortion and the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. With distances of approx. 350 meters (swim–they measured wrong), 10.5 miles (bike), and 5K (run), I finished in 1:23:40.
The second sprint tri I did was the Oktoberfest Tri in Longmont, CO, on September 20, 2009. With distances of 750 meters (swim), 12.4 miles (bike), and 5K (run), I finished in 1:43:59.
With my first 2 tris under my belt, I feel like less of a newbie but I still have a long way to go in learning the freestyle stroke, as well as finding a road bike (I used an old mountain bike for my first 2!).
In March 2010, I got a job working for a triathlon company so I travel most weekends to either our own races or to time other people’s. So my triathlon goals got sidetracked but I am doing the Heart and Sole Half Marathon on August 22nd and Malibu International Marathon on November 14th. I’ll pick up tris again next year hopefully.
After that, the possibilities are endless…
